Dissecting an “Out” Solo Break on John Mayer’s “Stitched Up”

The solo break from the following video has prompted many comments on YouTube and from members of this site.

• What’s the thought process for getting into it?
• Can you talk about your thoughts behind this cool lick?
• Are you playing the break as if it’s a dominant chord for the Bmin?
• Got the break, just don’t understand the theory
