If so, I’d like to help you. My Virtual Studio is the place I share everything I’ve learned about developing those skills. These are the things I’m all about.

Would you like to:
- Get your best tone on the saxophone?
- Memorize tunes so you never forget them—and play them convincingly all by yourself?
- Play fluidly over chord changes (and stop stringing together patterns and licks that make you sound like an amateur)?
- Spend time on things that will make you a confident improviser (and learn what things NOT to waste time on?

After just over a week of following your instructions, the improvements I’m noticing are astounding! I wish this site had existed when I’d picked up the sax, rather than discovering it after busting my ass for four years at music school and realizing a lot of what I was taught was BS!
– James Lawton
I’ve been playing 30 years but never understood what people were talking about with overtones. After this lesson I get it and do it with almost every practice. Great video.

My Virtual Studio is currently closed to new students, but…
To create the best experience for you, I open enrollment only twice each year with limited spots available. Why? So I can help YOU the most. (And because I’m on tour a lot.)
When you enroll you get instant access to:
My goal is to give you EVERYTHING I would in a private lesson ($160/hour) for a fraction of the cost. You get access to:
- new lessons each month
- new challenges each month (optional)
- ALL the lessons I’ve made in the past 6 years (over 500 video lessons)
- our private (and very supportive) community of hundreds of like-minded players
- personal feedback from me
Your videos have helped me tremendously; they have given me an organized practice routine and focus. Also got me into transcription.
– Shaun Thomas
What are the lessons about?
Here’s a sample of what’s inside…
Who’s it for?
I began creating video lessons for this website in 2010 as a way to connect my students around the world, coach them together, and encourage them to share, interact with and learn from one another.
Hundreds of players—from high school and college students, educators, adult amateurs and top industry pros (some play on TV shows, record with GRAMMY nominated artists, and tour with legendary performers)—have found the lessons, courses and community incredibly valuable to their development.
This is a place to reexamine, redesign and reignite your practicing and performing.
Arrived at the theatre a bit early. So I’ve sat and done some work on one of @Bob_Reynolds‘ video lessons. Fantastic stuff!

The Stablemates Forum connects you to a global community of musicians like yourself.
It’s great to be here! One of the things I struggle most with right now is the isolation living in a small community with very few experienced musicians, so it’s awesome to be able to share ideas with other players and ask for help when things have me stumped.
– James Lawton
I absolutely love what you do and am really impressed with your tone, your playing, your reverence for the greats and your integrity as a teacher and person.
– Chris Robinson
I wish my college had people come and tell us this stuff!
– Ben Byrne
Bob’s videos teach the language of jazz in bite size chunks.
– Andrew Houston
I’ve worked with numerous ‘teachers’, but, by far, Bob is the best. I’ve learned more from him than anyone else. Not only is Bob an exceptional musician but an exceptional teacher–and I’ve seen plenty of both. I appreciate his clear presentation style, insights, openness and generosity.
– Mike S.
The lessons are outstanding! Bob is an excellent communicator on video (which is not an easy thing to do). The best part is the ability to replay them as many times as necessary.
– Dan Dyas
Does it work on iPads/iPods/iPhones?
Yes. The videos play on every device.
Are these lessons for beginners or advanced players?
They’re intermediate to advanced lessons. BUT…there is so much emphasis on fundamentals that most beginners would benefit a lot from them. Our members would tell you that the lessons really work on all levels. I teach in a way I call “laddering”; meaning whatever the topic or concept, you can step into it at your current experience level. If you’re a true beginner (just learning the saxophone) these lessons WILL be above your head.
Is this just for saxophone players?
Nope. We have bass players, guitarist…some lessons are sax-specific, but most are more about the fundamentals of mastering your instrument (any instrument) and building the strongest foundations as an improviser.
Do I have to download the videos to watch them?
No. They are streaming from super fast servers around the globe. You can watch them anywhere with an internet connection. (Most lessons have an mp3 download for folks who like to listen on the commute to work.)
Am I locked into a long term commitment?
Nope. You may cancel with one easy click at anytime you wish. Just go to your profile page to find the button. (Please read the terms and conditions when you sign up.)
