Learning to love long tones is one of the most important skills a horn player can adopt. In this one-octave chromatic warm up, we’ll couple the playing of long tones with a secondary focus on rhythm.

Takeaways:

  • Pay attention to the rhythmic subdivisions of each measure as you play your long tones.
  • Focus on engaging your diaphragm and embouchure muscles throughout the exercise.
  • It’s ok for your mind to wander, just keep bringing your focus back, just like meditation.
